Types of Leather Used in Leather Garment Manufacturing
Genuine leather is a durable material used for crafting various leather garments. The most commonly used types of leather in the industry are:
1. Cowhide: This is one of the most preferred types due to its durability in harsh weather conditions and resistance to abrasion. With proper storage and maintenance, garments can last for decades. It's the primary material for manufacturing motorcycle suits and jackets, giving character to garments. Today, cowhide can be processed in many ways and is often used for pants, vests, jackets, skirts, and dresses.
2. Lambskin: Known for its lightness, softness, and flexibility. It's significantly thinner than cowhide and therefore preferred for creating lighter and more delicate models: shirts, dresses, skirts, jackets, etc. It's suitable for creating more extravagant designs, as the surface can easily be finished with laser decoration, heat embossing for texture, or perforation.
3. Pigskin and Goatskin: These two types of leather are renowned for their strength. Pigskin has a medium thickness and highly porous surface. It's used in manufacturing jackets, men's vests, and shoe linings. Goatskin is most suitable for making gloves. Despite its small size, it's extremely tight and difficult to stretch. It's ideal for gloves and other accessories that undergo daily wear and tear.
4. Exotic Leathers: This includes crocodile, snake, and various lizard skins. They are significantly more expensive and rarely used for everyday garments, but add uniqueness and prestige to any garment or accessory.
These are some of the most commonly used leathers in the leather industry. The choice of leather is an individual decision that depends on preferences, garment style, and the overall look one wants to achieve.
